Instead

crickets chirp
loud outside
cannot sleep
quiet the mind
heart pounds
surrounded
awake with
ceiling fan
slicing the night
rotating
with a wobble
making
a small squeaky sound
which chimes in
quietly with
the symphony
of insects
syncopated
songs hop
in and out
of my head
dancing like dreams
drowning my day
into waves of water
crashing into
consciousness
melodies
make me smile
find the cool spot
on the pillow
one of so many things
to be happy about
to even have a space
to call my own
a little room
to call my home
so i get back up
climb out of bed
jot down this poem
instead
